I'm not a business, I'm a person

I’m not a brand or a business, I’m a person.

Since this photography journey of mine has escalated into something a little bigger I’ve been reading SO MUCH about how to create your brand - how to make a perfect Instagram feed, how to have a cohesive look to showcase what your business is all about.  You know what? It’s exhausting. It may be truly good business practice – branding all your content, creating cohesive social media feeds, creating a business identity – but it’s tiring y’all. And I’m not created for that, and I’m not going to try to act like a business woman when I’m not.

Hi, I’m Betsy Lee Jordan. I’m not a business, I’m not a brand. I love quesadillas and chips and salsa. I work as a newborn photographer at a local hospital and I’m graduating with a degree in ELA Education in December 2018. I am completely transparent, and if we talk for long enough, I’m likely to spill my whole life story. I am incapable of showing emotions on the outside that I’m not feeling on the inside (so when I tell you that you’re rocking your photos, you can trust that it’s the truth). I’m a little awkward, a chronic worrier, but I love deeply and I care about you and your story. I’m not an entrepreneur, I am a creative with a love for God and a love for others. I am a human, and here are some things I believe in:

I believe in Jesus.

I believe in spreading God’s love.

I believe in grace + giving lots of it, because I’ve been given lots of it.

I believe in people.

I believe in loving people, and encouraging others to love people too.

I believe in giving my talents back to God.

Photography is just one aspect of my life with which I can do all of these things. I believe I can truly show you the beauty in your story, and by doing that, give you proof of the grace God has given you in life. Those who come to me for photos are usually going through an important time in their life: anticipating marriage, saying “yes” to marriage, awaiting the arrival of their new child or graduating high school. All of these special life events give me great opportunity to love on my clients in the stage of life they’re in, and that’s what I intend to do with this talent God has blessed me with.

In light of this long sentimental ramble, I am combining my personal and business Instagram accounts - @betsyleephoto and @bleejordan are becoming one: @betsyleejordan. I am going to focus less on numbers, marketing strategies, and followers, and more on my interactions with people, creative endeavors, and sharing my personal beliefs. My photography identity is not separate from my personal identity, because I am a person with values, beliefs, and a love for photography – not a business with a brand and a game plan. My focus is on fulfilling my calling in the skills God has given me, not building a 10,000-count following or mega photography business.

So I’m just me, Betsy. I would love to help you document your story.
